The Graffiti Bridge has some new technology installed.

The bridge was hit by a box truck again the other day, which makes this a good time to share some news about what’s happening behind the scenes. 👀

The Graffiti Bridge has some new technology installed.

This system is designed to capture a black and white image every time the bridge is struck, allowing the railroad to monitor movement and measure any damage over time. It also captures images when trains pass over the bridge, providing additional data to help track movement and monitor the structure.

From what I was told, the railroad hopes this information will help them hold drivers accountable for collisions with the bridge.

This project was already in the works before the city began its recent efforts to reduce bridge strikes. The equipment and labor were donated to the railroad, and the City of Pensacola assisted by allowing the railroad to utilize the pole for the installation, making it a collaborative effort.

Will it reduce collisions? Time will tell.

We also hope to start getting access to some of these images so we can share them with everyone. I’m personally hoping for a few priceless facial expressions when drivers realize they’re about to meet Pensacola’s most famous bridge. 😬

For now, we’ll be watching right along with everyone else
